Code of Conduct
Scope


All band members, resident musical director(s) and others with an active role at rehearsals or concerts.


Purpose

To adopt a level of conduct that supports the ethos and policies of Gillingham Imperial Silver Band. The policies are there to ensure the band comply with the applicable laws and regulations.

Performances
1 Whilst at an engagement (even when not playing) you are on show to the
public and therefore should be on your best behaviour.


2. Uniform should be worn correctly as communicated by the Uniform Secretary
or Events secretary and Musical Director.


3. Players will sit correctly on the stand.


4. The playing area must be kept clear of all items not required for playing.
Drinks on the stand should be restricted to water.


5. There will be no swearing or unnecessary talking on the stand.


6. When leaving the stand in between playing sessions, music stands and
instruments must be left in a safe position or put in cases.


7. Players will have their instruments ready to play at the start of a piece of
music even if they have nothing to play, and bring them down at the end of
the piece at the musical director’s indication


General

8. Members should be given a copy of the band's policies and sign as read and understood. Any suggestions for improvements should be made to a member
of the committee

9. Instruments and stands are to be kept clean and any damage sustained must be reported to a Committee member.


10. At practice players are expected to start playing at 7.30p.m., unless otherwise confirmed. Apologies should be sent to a member of the committee or the
section principal. This can be done, preferably using the group email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.


11. All members are to treat each other and any employees or guests of the band with respect at all times.


12. Any conflicts with other players will be referred to and dealt with by the committee.


13. Suggestions to the musical director should be made directly, or via the committee, outside of active practice time


14. The practice room is to be left clean and tidy, with chairs and stands left tidily and drinks containers and litter disposed of appropriately.


15. Social media posts on the Band website, facebook, twitter, or youtube forums (or other social media forums as applicable) should reflect the ethos of the band. They should be apolitical, they shouldn’t identify individual adults involved without their permission, they should only include images of young people or vulnerable adults with the permission of parents or carers and shouldn’t identify the individual.

16. Adult Band members should not use friendships on social media with children or young people for contacts. E mails contact should be with parents or carers or via group


17 Band members with concerns about the behaviour of others which could be a safeguarding issue, should report their concerns to the safeguarding officer providing the safeguarding officer is not the person of concern. In this event
