GISB "Beat the winter blues"

A small but highly appreciative audience joined the band on Sunday 8th February to "Beat the winter blues" with a programme of light music to suit all tastes. While others enjoyed the bright sunny winter afternoon, our audience were treated to Gershwin, Shostakovich and Brahms, interspersed with David Hellewell's wonderful "Jazzcat" Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and Clive Lewis's original theme tune from "Thomas the Tank Engine", to name a few.

The band also welcomed Michelle Hudson back into the spotlight after a 17 year absence in Cornwall, showcasing her mellow Flugel Horn sound with "Golden Memories" by Karen Burton, and in a duet arrangement of Gershwin's "Summertime" with Principal Cornet Liam Carey.

To round off the afternoon the audience were treated to Arturo Marquez's "Conga del Fuego Nuevo", certain to get those hips swinging!

Despite offering free entry, we raised a very respectable £250 in the retiring collection. Many thanks to all who attended!

Our next concert is on 18th April in Sturminster Newton, and will feature International Euphonium soloist Glyn Williams and Flugel Horn soloist Helen Williams, of Cheshire's prize winning Foden's Band. Not to be missed! Tickets £10 and £7 from www.stur-exchange.co.uk or 01258 475137.
